Research and reporting

IP Reports Built for Decisions

An IP report should state its question, sources, search scope, date, assumptions, exclusions, and limits. Visual polish cannot compensate for an unclear dataset or an unsupported conclusion.

Reviewed 11 July 2026

01

Landscape and prior-art reports

Define the technology, keywords, classifications, assignees, countries, family treatment, legal status, and cut-off date. A landscape is not automatically a patentability or freedom-to-operate opinion.

02

Trademark and market reports

Explain databases, search logic, classes, territories, translations, marketplace sources, and treatment of dead or pending marks. Registry findings should be separated from unregistered-use evidence.

03

Portfolio and risk reports

Connect every recommendation to a verified right, product, owner, market, deadline, licence, dispute, revenue assumption, and cost. Identify missing records and confidence level rather than hiding gaps.

Preparation checklist

  • Decision question
  • Search scope and cut-off
  • Primary and secondary sources
  • Assumptions and exclusions
  • Reproducible findings and next steps

Primary and authoritative sources

This material is general educational information, not a legal opinion or a prediction of outcome. Current law, office practice, deadlines, fees, evidence, and remedies must be checked for the particular facts and jurisdiction.
